Soffit

Vented soffit so your attic can breathe.

The soffit is the underside of your roof overhang. It closes the eave and — when it’s vented correctly — it’s where every bit of intake air for your attic comes from. Blocked soffit is one of the most common faults we find, and one of the most expensive to ignore.

What We Do

Our soffit work

01

Vented soffit installation

Perforated aluminum or vinyl panel sized to deliver the intake your attic actually needs, balanced against the exhaust at the ridge.

02

Replacement & repair

Sagging panels, water-damaged board, and openings where animals have gotten in. Usually paired with fascia work since they meet at the same corner.

03

Ventilation assessment

We measure intake against exhaust and check whether insulation has been blown over the vents — which happens constantly and silently kills airflow.

04

Pest exclusion

Closing the gaps that let birds, bats, and squirrels into the eave, without sealing off the ventilation you need.

Why It Matters

Bad ventilation shortens a new roof by years

Attic airflow only works as a system: cool air in at the soffit, hot air out at the ridge. Block the intake and there’s nothing to replace the air leaving the top, so heat and moisture sit against the underside of your decking. Shingles cook from below, and in winter the same trapped warmth melts snow that refreezes at the cold eave — that’s how ice dams form.

It also voids shingle warranties. Most manufacturers require balanced ventilation, and a denied warranty claim is a bad way to find out yours wasn’t.

Warning Signs

What to look for

Four things you can check yourself before calling anyone.

An attic that's brutally hot

Well beyond outside temperature on a summer afternoon means air isn’t moving through it.

Ice dams at the eaves in winter

Ridges of ice along the roof edge are a ventilation and insulation problem, not a gutter problem.

Mildew or frost on attic sheathing

Dark patches or morning frost on the underside of the decking means moisture is trapped up there.

Shingles aging faster than they should

A roof looking tired well before its rated life usually cooked from underneath.
